Pedro Nolasco was the second son of Luis Sánchez Castro and María Soledad Rivera Vázquez.
He was born circa 1845 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on February 1, 1850. Unfortunately, his baptism record does not exist due to the loss of Aibonito church records. When the Sánchez Rivera family moved to Comerío, Pedro was about 10 years old. He was likely homeschooled by his parents, as they both came from educated backgrounds. He was a first cousin of Puerto Rican politician Luis Muñoz Rivera. Pedro found work as a merchant and businessman in his young adulthood. He lost his father at the age of 20.
Pedro found himself in Cidra by 1867 and began a relationship with Avelina Ocaña Gómez. They had their first child, Soledad del Carmen, prior to their marriage. She was born on February 1, 1870, and baptized in Cidra on April 17. The couple married at the Church of Señora del Carmen in Cidra on June 25 of the same year. Soon after, Pedro brought his family back to Comerío, and they settled near the main town.
The children of Pedro Nolasco Sánchez Rivera and Avelina Ocaña Gómez were:
Soledad del Carmen (1 Feb 1870)
Isabel María (15 Sep 1871)
Pedro Avelino (24 Aug 1873)
Luis Pío (4 May 1875)
Rosalía (4 Sep 1877)
María Areopajita (8 Oct 1879)
José Cándido (30 Apr 1882)
Antonio Julián (Jan 1884, died 8 Feb 1884)
Luis Ramón Dolores (27 Jul 1885)
Aurora Conrada (19 Feb 1887)
María Concepción (2 Dec 1888, died 25 Dec 1888)
José Enrique Geraldo (17 Mar 1890)
Outside of the births of their children, not much is known about the lives of Pedro and Avelina during this time. However, it is known that Pedro served as the Municipal Judge (juez municipal) of Comerío in the 1880s and early 1890s. As a result, his handwriting and signature can be found all over Comerío's civil records. In 1895, Pedro had an early death due to yellow fever. He died on November 22, 1895, at the age of 50 and was buried the next day in Comerío.
